San Francisco based DJ and Producer Jimmy Love is co-founder of the legendary Non Stop Bhangra parties at Public Works, as well as member of award winning party crew Surya Dub. Jimmy has been rocking the SF Scene and beyond with his unique blend of Electronic, Reggae, Bhangra and Hip-Hop mixes for years, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western dance floors. Hosting the FRENCH TRIBAL EMBASSY on The Golden Trail West Coast tour are Djeynee from Paris and Mat Jacob from Montreal. Both have been integral in spreading appreciation, support and knowledge of American Tribal Style (ATS), Improvizational Tribal Style (ITS) and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance worldwide. Djeynee has hosted just about every top notch Tribal and Fusion belly dancer from the US at her Tribal Umrah festivals in France, Including Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara, Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle and Unmata – to name just a few. Djeynee and Mat are hosting 20 dancers from France on a West Coast US tour taking them to Portland, Sacramento and San Francisco, to train with Rachel Brice, Amy Sigil and Zoe Jakes – as well as FatChanceBellyDance, Jill Parker and others. While here, they will be performing at UNDERGROUND NOMADS on this night, showcasing the amazing talents France has to offer, in this Exclusive intimate engagement in SF.
A dozen dancers from France will be performing, joined by the amazing local talents of ZOE JAKES and CALAMITY SAM. Both will give solo performances and join a late night ITS group performance together with Djeynee, Mat and the ladies from France.
Drawing on her varied and well-rounded performance background, Zoe Jakes has developed a versatile instruction style all her own. Katarina Burda (an original member of Bal-Anat) was her first teacher and influence, and Zoe was a company member of Katarina’s troop Aywah! along with the talented Mira Betz, also an inspiration and longtime teacher, and Elizabeth Strong, whom she spent years performing in the bay area in their group, Arabesque. She went on to perform with Suhaila Salimpour, spent a few years learning how to get in peoples faces in Extra Action Marching Band, and immersed herself in Vaudeville-americana touring with The Yard Dogs Road Show. A proud member of The Indigo Belly Dance Company, Zoe holds Mardi Love and Rachel Brice amongst her teachers and inspiration. Currently Zoe is touring with her band Beats Antique, a group that has 6 albums and hundreds of live shows under their belt. She designs and makes many of her own costumes and co-produces tracks with Beats Antique, adding set designer, and stylist to her body of work. Zoe has the desire and opportunity to bring belly dance to the masses, having performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonneroo festivals in front of thousands of people that don’t know belly dance from an elephant. It is her passion that belly dance can get a wider recognition and respect, and as a touring workshop instructor her classes reflect this ideal, focusing on strong technique and long term motivation.
Zoe has recently joined the Hot Pot Global team and is bringing UNMATA style ITS into her Beats Antique shows (Upcoming Nov. 16th show at the Fillmore will feature Unmata and Calamity Sam). Here’s a lil taste of Hot Pot style from the recent Beats Antique show in PIttsburgh, PA.

Presenting the original improvisational bellydance form called American Tribal Style is FatChanceBellyDance.
Since the creation of FatChanceBellyDance by Carolena Nericcio in 1987, the troupe has fascinated audiences worldwide with their exciting improvisational technique. Carolena has refined a montage of different “tribal” elements into what has been coined American Tribal Style bellydance. Through their participation in dance festivals, collaborative productions with other artists, and benefit shows for community events, FCBD has established a strong professional reputation in and out of the Bay Area for performing as well. www.fcbd.com
Director of the acclaimed Dangerous Beauties dance troupe and Co-director of Troupe Scimitar Surreyya is a highly sought after performer and instructor. She sings in English and Turkish, and dances regularly solo as well as with several world fusion and rock bands. Surreyya’s performance is full of excitement, and is inspired by Egyptian, Turkish and American Tribal flavors of dance. A passionate and creative performer, she also incorporates props (sword, cane, snakes, veil, finger cymballs) into her repertoire and has won several prestigious dance awards. Surreyya thrives on audience participation, often giving impromptu lessons and adding a comedic twist to her performance. www.surreyya.com
Shanti Jourdan began Belly Dancing in 2002 and found what she had been missing in her Western dance training. After 5 years of American Cabaret style belly dance, a troupe mate took her to see The Indigo and Shanti fell in love with Belly Dance all over again but this time with an obsessive passion for isolations and layers.
Since then Shanti has devoted herself to Tribal Fusion and studying with those who inspire her. She is 8 Elements Phase II certified and enjoys collaborating in group projects as well as performing as a soloist in Los Angeles and throughout the West Coast. Her dancing is currently inspired by Hahbi’Ru, accordions, Mardi Love, the paintings of Gustav Klimt, Calamity Sam and her beloved teacher, Rachel Brice. www.shantibellydance.com

Dear supporters, Please note that we are moving to a new venue at the end of the month.
We are excited to be moving to F8 at 1192 Folsom St. (@ 8th) in the SOMA area of San Francisco. The new venue has an awesome sound system, nice and still intimate dancefloor, great bar with some excellent drink specials, and an overall nice friendly vibe.
Kicking off our residency at F8, we will have more nights with Cheb i Sabbah – August is Cheb i Sabbah Month !
Moving forward, we are planning on having 2 DJs (or one DJ and one live act) each week. We will still have the dance performances. We are not taking anything away, just adding more. We plan to bring in occasional special guest DJs and music acts. We will also be starting a little earlier, so you can enjoy some Happy Hour drinking and snacking while we get the night rolling.
We have loved doing nights at Bissap Baobab, and will continue to do occasional events there, but this move opens up some amazing new possibilities us as well as for them. Please join us at F8 on any Tuesday on or after July 30th.
The resident DJs are on somewhat of a regular monthly rotation. Due to our tour schedules, we may be occasionally swapping weeks. For example, Amar and Dulce are switching nights for August, so Dulce can rock it out at Burning Man. Cheb i Sabbah will be traveling in October to work on his upcoming new album, so we will be filling in for his nights. You can always check the website for the most up to date schedule if you wish to see a particular one of us on a night. We plan to post our schedules at least a month out, and will post any changes as soon as we are able to.
Below is our schedule for our July 30 Launch and for the month of August. We will post all of the details once we confirm the lineups. Please check back in after the weekend or subscribe for updates. You can also find our updates on the facebook page. Help us spread the word by sharing this post on facebook and twitter and following us there. We thank you for your continued support.
