March 29th: 5th Tuesday Benefit for Refugee Transitions

APRIL IS ALMOST HERE! We’re excited Spring has finally arrived, and we’re doing a charity event in celebration! This month, we’re supporting Refugee Transitions.

Creating education, family engagement, and community leadership opportunities for the San Francisco Bay Area’s refugee, immigrant, and asylee newcomer communities since 1982.

Our awesome 5th Tuesday DJ, RAFAEL, will be back behind the decks to bring the beats- and our dance line up is expanded, of course!

This week, we have the irrepressible LADY G SCHMIDT, visual excitement by VERBATIM, shimmies and more from ISABEL PERDOMO, a little something spooky from the CALAMITOUS CHOREOGRAPHY group, AYRE BRIAR‘s grab bag of dance talent surprise, and the folk inspired fusions of THE BARDOT TREASURY.

In addition to all of these amazing acts, we have a treat for you! The Alchemy Slam and Spoken word poetry group (with whom we now share Tuesday nights at F8) will be joining us in the main room!

More about Alchemy Slam:
The Alchemy slam is a hub for spoken word poetry in San Francisco. Our
weekly shows bring high velocity performance poetry blasting into the
ear canals and heart valves of all people present. Spoken word poetry
ranges from vulnerable personal stories to heartfelt commentary on
social justice to spark igniting evocations of passion to feet raising
gut busting proclamations of levity. This art form exists as a direct
human encounter where audience and performers engage in the varied
experiences of our diverse lives.

Normal weekly schedule:

8PM: Music starts
Performance sets at 9 and 10.
DJ sets all night following performances, till midnight or later. We have transitioned to earlier hours, and are now offering 2 sets of performances most weeks (occasionally, we will do just 1 set).

$5 entry most weeks* – Free before 9 if you ask.
(*On certain weeks with larger Special Guest lineups or Special Event nights, we have sliding scale entry fee – usually $5-10 – and may not offer free early entry – but we will honor it if you ask).
